Fidel Castro Welcomes Evo Morales


Havana, Dec 30 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Fidel Castro has welcomed Bolivian President elect Evo Morales, and his accompanying delegation upon their arrival in Havana Friday.

Cuban Vice President Carlos Lage, Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque, and Parliament Speaker Ricardo Alarcon also greeted the Bolivian leader, who kicks off in Cuba his first global tour as president-elect.

Morales won the Dec. 18 polling with 54 percent of the votes, a record high in Bolivia´s electoral history.

His Movement toward Socialism (MAS) also attain a solid majority in both chambers of the Congress.
"A new history begins for Bolivia, where equity, fairness, and peace will be sought with social justice," Morales said in his first public statements upon his arrival in Havana.

Morales´ inaugural ceremony is scheduled for January 22.

During his Cuba visit, the visitor will hold working meetings with President Fidel Castro, other Cuban leaders and visit sites of interest in Havana.

He is returning Saturday to Bolivia where he will spend New Year´s Eve in his home town with relatives and friends, before embarking on an international tour that will take him to several European countries, China, South Africa and Brazil.
